The Ultimate List of Color Made Easy Patterns (Crochet) and Review

By Michele Thymmons

OF NOTE: Lion Brand has discontinued Color Made Easy yarn :( However, you can visit YarnSub for matches for yarn. I’m working through a couple of patterns I’ve made with Color Made Easy yarn using one of the recommend yarns and will let you know once I find a replacement. Any suggestions that you have would also be welcome. :)

Color Made Easy Yarn by Lion Brand is a gorgeous yarn, size 5 (bulky), and has a number of different gorgeous colors. It is surprisingly soft and light for a bulky yarn. After having discovered it earlier this year, I wanted to do a review and create a list of bulky crochet patterns that you could create something beautiful with this wonderful yarn!

I have truly fallen in love with using the Color Made Easy Yarn by Lion Brand , which you can find in Joann Fabric Stores , and some Etsy Sellers such as Anna’s Got Crochet and Smith Studio Knits have them marked down a little for destash. It is an amazing yarn, a true dream to work with, so soft and drapes beautifully while also having some vibrant colors and color combinations.

It doesn’t slip while working with it, or rub on my fingers as some yarns do when working with them a lot, and works up quickly using whatever pattern I have. It also frogs easy and doesn’t get stuck if you make a mistake and need to redo a portion of the pattern.

Stitch and Hustle’s Hooded Scarf Pattern

I have found it unwinds easily and doesn’t force you to put down your crochet project to unwind it. It is also easy to untangle when/if you are using several colors (as in the shawl) and the colors get tangled at all. The colors are vibrant and beautiful - my current favorite combination is the blue/silver/white (Huckleberry, Shade, Birch) that I used in the shawl pattern from Two of Wands, will also be using it for a hat and cowl for myself. :) Can’t wait to get started with this (happy dance!!!).

Oh and I found that if you have no stuffing but need some for stuffed animals, etc. You can use this yarn as stuffing and it works very well!!! We cut it into pieces about half an inch to an inch long and pulled them apart. Then once you get enough you use it to stuff whatever you need to stuff!!! :) Perfect if you cannot go out and buy stuffing during this time when stores are less likely to be open or if you simply cannot get stuffing but need it. :) One more thing that is perfect to keep the kids busy after they’ve asked you to make a crochet/knit/sewed stuffed animal :)

Two of Wands Gorgeous Fireside Wrap is what started my obsession with Color Made Easy Yarn!!!

The only downside I have found is that I cannot find all the colors I would like to use (such as a forest green or dark green to match Huckleberry dark blue) and that you do have to make sure you watch when you use any frogged yarn at times because it can be easier to miss getting your hook under the entire strand rather than part of it, but that is a majority of yarns after they have been frogged as they tend to show more wear after they’ve been used initially. However, it is still my favorite non-indie dyer yarn to date :)

I found this yarn through making this gorgeous shawl by Two of a Wand (Fireside Wrap) and have simply wanted to make everything with it now! I have found excuses to use it in patterns (even going so far as to decide to use it for Christmas presents just to use it and play with it more - yep full out obsessed with it now!) and have recently been scouring the web, Etsy, Ravelry, Pinterest for all types of sweaters and tops I could use this yarn to make for myself.

I’m not really a shawl person and the shawl I made with this yarn will keep me for a long time. However, in my searches I realized how hard it is to find sweater patterns using bulky (5) yarn. So, I thought I would gather them and some shawl/cowl patterns all together for you so that you can try this yarn to create your own sweater or top to wear all winter long!!!

If you have others you would recommend I add to this list send me an email at vamicreations17@gmail.com or comment below!
