The Ultimate List of 100 of the Most Talented Yarn Dyers on Instagram

Have you ever been exploring a forest emerald green, or hiked a frosted mountain snowy and breathtaking and wished you could capture those colors, to keep with you forever, dared to dream you could even wear them or sink deep into a soft blanket or sweater resplendent of these colors of your dreams and most treasured memories?

That is the essence of what these extremely talented yarn dyers have strived to create using their hands, wits, imaginations, and tools around them. And how they have succeeded!! Some of the below have maker features where you can find out even more about them, their story, and the resources that have helped them to grow to where they are today. Others have been recently discovered while ever more become makers of vibrant colors after my own heart and crochet hands :) .

So with needing no futher introduction, I bring you in no particular order but grouped by region of the world they are from, the 99 Most Talented Yarn Dyers of Instagram! 1 - Jeanne of destinationyarn from Ohio, has created some gorgeous colorways inspired by travel (how awesome!!!) Each colorway is named after a location and the colors are amazing. Her yarn can be found at her website and you can also see more of her colorways on her Instagram profile.

2 - Beth and Ashley of Blue Mule Fiber from Texas (update as of 18 May 2022 - they are temporarily closed but will update once I hear they have reopened) have created some of the most beautiful yarns from start to finish. They dye their yarns on their farm in Texas where they also have a winery! They'll be hosting a Texas Yarn Lover's Event 27 April 2019 at their winery and how I wish I was there to see all the amazing yarns that will be there and check out their wine :) You can check out their Etsy Shop for their amazing yarns, crochet hooks and more. 3 - Keri of Yellow June Fiber Co. of Mississippi dyes unique and gorgeous colorways. Some are a vibrant yellow with a slight amount of speckle, others are a multitude of colors - yellow, blue-green, brown and so much more. Their Instagram profile has a look at their colorways and behind the scenes looks and you can find their yarn in their Etsy Shop.

4 - Melissa of plankandstella from Indiana has created some fun colors in her shop and also adds lots of mystery to her pieces by do mystery mixtapes periodically and a number of different kits all available in her Etsy Shopand her updates and colorway reveals are on her Instagram profile.

5 - Jen of Laine and Lotus in Connecticut has patterns and maker gear found on her Etsy Shop. Check out her Instagram profile and website for all her amazing yarn and her Maker Feature with us for the story behind Laine and Lotus. She has the most beautiful yarns to include a purple (see picture :) that is absolutely gorgeous and something that I will be getting for myself soon. :)

6 - Chandi of Expression Fiber Arts from North Carolina creates not only beautiful inspired yarns but also has patterns for both crochet and knitting. And...she's a writer too! She has all of her yarn updates and patterns on her Instagram profile and you can find all of her beautfiul yarns, yarn kits, patterns, her e-book, and more on her website.

7 - Christina of Serenity Fibers from Texas has some beautiful yarns with yarn clubs (one of which is the Mythical Creatures Sock Yet Yarn Club) and more. She also spins and is a fiber artist with many of her behind the scenes looks at her spinning journey and others found on her Instagram profile. 8 - Dana of Harbor Fibers of Maine creates beautiful yarns from ethically sourced yarns. Her Instagram profile is full of gorgeous yarns and her various projects using her yarn and others. You can find her yarns such as her new Not Your Average Spring Tonals in her Etsy Shop.

9 - Becky of Thistle & Hart Fiber Co. from Oregon has created a number of beautiful yarn colorways, some uniquely on Mohair while others on all sizes of yarn. Her Instagram profile shows each of her colorways and recently collaborated with Jessica of the Hook Nook and Furls Crochet to create a dreamy Spring Collection inspired by Jessica and dyed on Furls Crochet's new base. 10 - Carissa and family of Bumblebee Acres Fiber Farm from Illinois but inspired by a family history of grandmas, mothers, and daughters from Lativa working fiber arts together. They have a variety of spinning yarns and awesome yarn clubs such as the Game of Thrones fade along, the Hogwarts monthly yarn club, and Tolkien monthly yarn clubs. 11 - Breann of hooked.on.homemade from Arizona has both beautiful crochet patterns and hand-dyed yarns in her Etsy Shop. What a great way to get both a pattern and the yarn for the project! Her Instagram profile is an amazing way to keep up with the latest in her shop to include her new yarn and patterns. Inspires me to start a new project today!

12 - Liz of HighFiberArtz (update as of 5 Feb 2023, she has been closed down but I’ll keep an eye out for if she’ll start dyeing again) from Oregon has some of the most beautiful yarn (and one of favorite go tos for yarn). Her Sally colorway is amazing and is the subject of the extremely detailed and inspirational yarn dyeing tutorial that will greatly inspire you to start your own dyeing journey and it also makes you appreciate how much work each of these awe-inspiring indie dyers put into each beautiful hank of yarn. 13 - Cortni of Rita Mae Yarns from Pennsylvania has the amazing story of how her grandmother inspired her to do all things yarn and to continue to inspire others to also grow in their passion for yarn fiber, she named her store after her grandmother and Rita Mae Yarns came into being. 14 - Sonya of Woolen Boon Yarn from Texas can be found at her website where she shows all her amazing yarns from her mom and pop studio. You’ll find fade kits, Harry Potter House themed yarns, updates, behind the scenes of her yarn dyeing, and more on her Instagram profile.

15 - Desert Bloom Yarns from Arizona has such fun and beautiful colored yarns dyed deep in the heart of Arizona. She has created some fun yarn clubs like the Cactus Creations Yarn Club, Prickly Pear Yarn Club, and other yarns named from western themes such as the Burroweed and Western Wallflower. 16 - Dami of Magpie Fibers from the historic city of Frederick, Maryland has created a number of exciting and beautiful colored yarns to include the recent Edinburgh Lane and Shawl Kits from Edin Yarn Fest, and the Magpie Fiber Society. 18 - Brittany of macheteshoppe from the Pennsylvanian Poconos has beautiful tonal and multi-colored yarns to include an awesome Into the Woods Mystery Yarn Club!!! I love how she describes the club as a way to inspire you to sit and relax from the calm after a holiday storm and even includes tea in each package!!! 19 - Tanya of cornbreadandhoney of Ohio has a number of beautiful fades and shawl kit yarns available on her Etsy Shop as well as several yarn clubs. Her yarn is beautiful and some of her colorways describe this beauty such as September Wedding Fade, Strawberry Quartz, Starry Night and others. 20 - Taralynn of Playful Day Yarns from California creates a number of beautiful yarns. Most of her skiens are mini sets and often unique, one of a kind, colorways that sell out quite fast can be found at her Etsy Shop and her Instagram profile shows all of her updates and behind the scenes stories.

21 - Sarah of knittyandcolor from Georgia has been dying since 2009 and has created some gorgeous yarn full of colors! Her updates are all announced on her Instagram profile and you can find her colorful yarns in her Etsy Shop.

22 - Rhonda of Loft TwentyTwo from California has created some amazing colorways such as her mini skeins, Harry Potter Potions sets, Whomping Willow, I Will Have Order, and much more! You can find her updates on her Instagram profile and all of her wonderful yarn on her Etsy Shop.

23 - Lauren of waywardcat from Georgia dyes beautiful colors such as Rainy Day, Easter Grass, Saffron, and others on her Etsy Shop and you can find more on her shop updates, new yarns and more on her Instagram profile.

24 - Sam of lavenderluneyarn is an Indie dyer in northern MN who has some amazing nature inspired yarns and such a fun project of the Indie Project - a monthly collaboration with another designer. She’s also a midwife in training! Her yarns and updates can be found on her Instagram profile and bought on her website.

25 - baahyarn from Southern California specializes creating yarns for a variety of shops and wholesale throughout the US. You can see more of their yarns and patterns on their Instagram profile They also have patterns and knitting kits available on their website as well as their huge list of shops where you can find their yarn.

26 - Kemper of Wraybot/Junkyarn from North Carolina creates awesome yarns inspired by women! You can find the stories and yarns at both her Instagram profile and website as well as see all of her updates and more about her Celestial Bodies Monthly Yarn Club, which sounds heavenly! 

27 - Sarah of ramseyyarnco of Arkansas and the Ozark Mountains creates ensnaring colorways in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. They are named after people and are beautiful in their use of colors. 28 - Lindsay of thefiberseed from Cincinnati, Ohio exclusively uses wool from US companies to create her amazing variety of yarns. She has speckled, be-sprinkled, half-speckled, kaleidoscope, wholesale, yarn of the month, palette of the month and more can be found on her website and more of all the different ways you can use her yarn, shop updates, and fiber festivals she is at on her Instagram profile.

29 - Amalia of Kindred Red from the US creates fun combinations of colors, some are neutral with colors while others are creative combinations of colors. You can see her yarns, where to get them and some of her knitting projects on her Instagram profile and all of her yarns on her website.

30 - Forbidden Fiber Co. from Tennessee creates exquisite hand-dyed yarns that are beautiful and alluring. The Cinderella Collection and Boss Babes Collection are breathtaking and her yarn clubs (Harry Potter, Wanderlust) are exciting and full of adventure. 31 - Shipwrecked Sheep of Texas has some beautiful and unique colorways and with names like Poseidon and Hatchling, her Instagram profile and website are colorful, inspirational, and fun.

32 - Lady Dye Yarns from Massachusetts has created some amazing colorways and awesome clubs with so many perfect items to include a Funkadelic 10 and the Retro 5 clubs, both which are collaborations with others in the maker community. 33 - Ashley of Old Wire Road Fiber Co (formerly The Blackberry Ridge) (Update as of 5 Feb 2023, Ashley’s shop is on a break for a little while. I’ll make sure that if anything changes I’ll update here) from the US has created some gorgeous and exquisite colors. Her bucket of happiness is the picture to the left and so many beautiful colors! 34 - Carla of purplelambfiberarts from the US creates yarns that she also uses as she knits, weaves, spins, and dyes yarn :) She has beautiful yarns of all shapes and sizes. 41 - Emma of Air de lune from Boston is a French indie dyer that has created simply gorgeous yarns like the picture to the right. Her breathtaking yarn is inspired by souvenir pictures and memory pictures. 44- MJ of catsandwichfibers from the US is all about bright colors and fun yarn, some that is repeatable and others that are a one-of-a-kind. A lot of her colorways sell out pretty fast, so you’ll need to check her Instagram profile often for updates which are located on her website.

45 - Meredith Jane of Knot Your Mommas Yarn (formerly mjartatheart) from Wisconsin has just started her yarn dyeing journey and has started out marveously. She has some super skeins in her shop and several patterns. I have created her Larklynn Beanie and bootcuffs pattern for a loved one and will be doing another set for myself soon. 46 - Tami of Eternity Ranch Knits from Idaho has gorgeous yarns and yarn collections in her Etsy Shop. 53 - Katie of A Handmade Journey from Tennessee, has created incredible yarns using so many different speckled colors to make beautiful yarns in various sizes and colors. 55 - Shobha of serendipitouswool from Texas has created some gorgeous colors of yarn in all sizes from fingering to DK to worsted. Her colors are beautiful and varied from solid colors such as Kissed by the Sun (a burnt orange) and Victorian (shades of purple) and multi-colored skeins such as Lemon Cupcake with Sprinkles (yellow base sprinkled with color and makes me hungry for cupcakes :) and sets of marvelous colors as well. 56 - Brady of Long Dog Yarn from Louisiana creates some beautiful yarns of all different sizes and color combinations. 59 - Jerica of YarnHookNeedles from Kansas just released her first yarn which you can find in her Etsy Shop. Her yarns are simply stunning and I can't wait to see what people make with them!! 60 - Kara of SmileyGoose is from Tennessee and has over 20 different beautiful colors of yarns in her Etsy Shop. She has solids like gorgeous reds or brillant blues as well as blue-purples that remind you of the deep ocean (conviently named mermaid :) and so much more! 61- Lindsay of Hello Stella from Ontario not only offers wonderful yarns to complete your next fiber project but she also gives you the opportunity to curl up with a good book and connect with a community as a part of her Kniterary Society hosted on her Instagram profile and own yarn inspired by the book cover. She also has the Van Collection coming out soon where $2 of every skein sold will be donated to RHMC and Sickkids Hospital. 63- Janine of Windmill Fibres of Ontario has created some of the most vibrant colored yarns in purples, pinks, blues, greens, yellows and more. 64 - The Blue Brick of Ontario is a husband/wife team who create and grow in many craft fields. They dye and photograph their own yarn, which is named after their favorite places in Ontario.
