The Ultimate List of Pattern Creation Resources
Starting out a new year with learning a new skill is always a bit like opening a present and opening a new one as you learn more and more. :). With this in mind, we wanted to dedicate this first month of the new year to the skill of creating a pattern which could be a crochet, knitting, cross stitch etc. This first post is focused on the software and different resources available for you to start creating a pattern. If there are others you recommend, please send me an email or comment below and we’ll add it to the list.
Some of these resources will be articles with information on different software by those who use them for creating patterns, while others are the links to the actual software or reviews of specific software.

Stitchworks Software is a great place to find stitching software that you can use to create crochet stitch patterns.

Make a Graph Crochet Picture Afghan talks about ways that you can create an afghan using a picture and turning it into a crochet graph. This is one way that you can create a crochet project using a picture or creating your own picture to customize any size blanket, shirt, etc.
Tools and Services You Need to Write a Crochet Pattern Like a Pro is a great article about tools and resources for writing a crochet pattern written by a crochet designer for crochet designers.
How to Make a Crochet Graph discusses how to create a crochet graph and different ways that you can use them to create your own custom crochet project.

Stitch Fiddle is a great free software that you can use to create crochet, knitting, cross stitch or other graphs as desired. Within crochet you can also create Tunisian Crochet and Filet Crochet as well.
Stitchboard is another free stitch software where you can create crochet, knitting, or cross stitch graphs by creating your own or uploading a picture to create a custom graph for your next project.
How to Design Corner to Corner Crochet Patterns discusses tips on how to design a corner to corner crochet pattern, written by a great crochet designer who has created a number of crochet pieces of all shapes, sizes, and styles.
Best Graphing Programs for Corner to Corner and Graphgans is a great post from another great crochet designer about graphing programs she recommends for creating corner to corner crochet patterns and graphgans.
In Search for Crochet Charting Software is a good post describing a number of crochet designer software available as well as what you can do with each.

Hello my friend! Sometimes being a crochet pattern designer no matter your experience (beginner or advanced) can be tough. For encouragement as well as to have some great recommendations by those who have been crocheting for a while, I’ve asked a number of crochet designers for not only how they got started and what they recommend for new pattern designers but what they wish they would have known when they first got started. :).
